BIOMETRIC TECHS : PRESS PAUSE. Facial recognition technologies, such as the one currently being considered for use in Britain's railways, will have a place in the smart city. But they present challenges.

The power of the technology, which can tell identical twins apart, is not matched by its security.

Governments and institutions which have proven they cannot keep existing data safe, should not be trusted with even more sensitive biometric data. Hackers would have a field day collecting biometric data, in perhaps the ultimate form of privacy violation.

The use of highly invasive techs, which will be useful under the right circumstances, should be carefully evaluated in terms of security and ethics  before being incorporated into ticketing systems.
