The average Brit is now spending 25 hours per week on the internet, due in part to the use of smartphones. One British pub is now using a Faraday cage device to block all mobile phone signals, to encourage people to relate more to each other and, according to the owner, "have more fun". Is this a good idea? Should more public spaces incorporate blocks of this kind? Social commentator and futurist Mal Fletcher says yes - and his reasons are intriguing.
