TEEN SUICIDES ENCOURAGED ONLINE Reports emerging today about how vulnerable teens are being encouraged social media to self-harm and commit suicide are disturbing.

They highlight the impact of social acculturation on young hearts and minds, a key consideration in the age of privacy-killing apps and social platforms.

Even moreso, however, they highlight the dearth of meaning on offer to many of our teens.

Our culture often promotes consumerism over contentment, victim mentality over self-reliance and cyber-connections over real-time human encounters.

The problem of youth suicide is one with many facets, to be sure.

However, the bottom line is surely that nobody commits suicide who has a sufficiently good reason to go on living.
